  • A walking track at Springs Studio supports the healthy schools initiative. Supporting Healthy Schools Initiative: The Springs Studio for Academic Excellence supports the healthy schools initiative. This school year, money from a Medicaid grant helped fund a walking track at the K-5 campus. This walking track has provided a safe place for students and staff to exercise during break, recess and landsharks practices. According to Allison B., “the track helps her perform at her personal best.” She knows that three laps around the track is a half mile. The track has helped her compete against herself to set a personal best. Many of the older students walk on the track with friends during recess. Thanks to the this walking track, students and staff are getting more exercise during the school day.

  • Charter School Request For Proposals: District 49 believes that every child should have the right to high-quality educational options. A Request For Proposals for high quality charter schools has been released with this in mind. The district is seeking motivated and talented teams of educators, parents, teachers, and community leaders with the commitment to implement effective and innovative methods of educating children. Because we understand that not every student learns the same way, the district desires to operate and authorize a robust portfolio of schools where programs are designed to fit the needs of individual students, while addressing our district’s priority needs for new school development. Learn more on the Charter Schools Authorizing page.

  • PPSEL Spring Institute Training: Pikes Peak School of Expeditionary Learning staff members took our annual spring institute training. This year our focus is a constructivist classroom and an integrated-interdisciplinary model. This work leads to revision of our expeditions (curricula). PPSEL leadership team is in Denver on June 6-7 developing their work plan goals for the year. This is accomplished with other leadership of the Mountain Region of Expeditionary Learning. Four PPSEL staff members are scheduled to attend the EL 101 conference in July. This is training for new or newer staff to learn more about our model and begin to align their practices with PPSEL values. The school is beginning to plan its School of Choice Week event for January.
