WHES Updates

  • August 19, 2021

Dear Woodmen Hills Elementary School Families,

On Thursday, at approximately 8:15 a.m., our law enforcement partners at the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office told WHES administrators as well as D49 safety and security about an active EPSO search for an individual in a nearby neighborhood. Following the guidance from EPSO, and out of an abundance of caution, administrators initiated a secured perimeter status at WHES as our law enforcement partners carried out their search. Students and staff moved quickly into the building, and the school restricted visitors, which follows our lockout procedures.

WHES carried on with regular activities indoors as our partners at EPSO carried out their mission, and our students and staff remained safe. Administrators lifted the lockout when EPSO gave the all clear at 9:10 a.m. after the initial alert.

D49 thanks our law enforcement partners and encourages all of our staff, students and families to stay alert and report any suspicious activity. We will stay proactive and partner with local law enforcement to ensure a safe learning environment awaits every District 49 learner.

    Sincerely,

    Bethany Stegman
    Principal, Woodmen Hills Elementary

Falcon Zone Updates

  • Falcon High School graduation requirements will change, beginning with the class of 2021. Teams of administrators and counselors from Falcon Middle School and Falcon High School have begun working on revisions. This work is initiated based on the new Colorado High School graduation guidelines developed by our state. Information will be shared soon across the zone regarding current drafts of possibilities, and a community meeting will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 21, at Falcon Middle School.

  • In February 2016, we formed a group of parents, staff and community members as the "Falcon Zone Coalition." At this time, at the start of the 2016-2017 school year, we have 14 members who are dedicated to supporting two goals for the coming year: Improving communication and engagement with students, staff and parents between and among school sites; and broadening and enhancing communication with the overall Falcon Zone community. At the August meeting, the team decided to begin immediate work on the first goal, so look for more information soon regarding progress and action in this area.
