SMS Dress Code and Grooming

Here is an overview of Skyview’s dress code policy. Please review this with your student to avoid dress code issues. Students are expected to wear appropriate attire that does not distract from the learning environment both during the school day and at school sponsored activities. Students are expected to practice good cleanliness and tidiness and Skyview encourages the appropriate use of hygiene products before our students come to school. ANY clothing, paraphernalia, grooming, jewelry, accessories, or body adornments that are disruptive, potentially disruptive to the educational environment, or represent gang affiliations as determined by the administration are not permitted.
Dress Code and Grooming:
Students are expected to wear appropriate attire that does not distract from the learning environment both during the school day and at school sponsored activities. Students are expected to practice good cleanliness and tidiness; Skyview encourages the appropriate use of hygiene products before our students come to school. ANY clothing, paraphernalia, grooming, jewelry, accessories, or body adornments that are disruptive, potentially disruptive to the educational environment, or represent gang affiliations as determined by the administration are not permitted.
Inappropriate items that SHALL NOT be worn at Skyview include but are not limited to the following:
- Clothing with obscene slogans, pictures, or see through clothing
- Jewelry or clothing depicting drugs/alcohol, violence, sexually inappropriate messages and or weapons
- Gang or gang type related dress attire, to include bandanas, beanies or hoodies
- Sleepwear of any kind (e.g., pajamas/lounge bottoms and/or tops, blankets, slippers, etc.),
- Skirts, dresses, shorts, that are immodest, too short for appropriate coverage. Bottom garments must be longer than the tip of the middle finger on the fully extended arm
- Ragging and sagging are unacceptable
- Personal grooming during class is not permitted- as well as the use of perfumes, body sprays, etc.
- Halter, tube tops, or other backless tops or bare midriffs, necklines cut too low to provide adequate coverage, half shirts, strapless clothing, see-through clothing, spaghetti straps or tops with less than two inch wide shoulder straps
- Athletic muscle/mesh shirts
- Shredded, ripped, frayed or torn clothing above the knee must have leggings or shorts so that NO skin is showing
- Hanging overall straps or decorative pant straps
- Clothing that allows undergarments to be seen
- Clothing that is inappropriately short, tight
- Hats, caps, bandanas, do-rags, sweat bands or other head coverings or any part of these which is visible
- Sunglasses, chains or spikes are not to be worn in the building
In cases of questionable dress, the administration will have final word on what is appropriate. Students in violation of this policy will be asked to change clothes. If a student does not have other clothing, the school will provide alternate clothing. Parents may be called to bring student appropriate clothes to finish the school day. Subsequent violations will be subject to disciplinary action. Please be aware that scented products may pose a health risk to others, so please be considerate. Inappropriate use of any aerosols, fragrances or any other scented product may lead to disciplinary consequences.
