Evans International Elementary School Parent Involvement Policy

    Evans International Elementary School currently offers a Schoolwide Title I Program. Parent notification is required by Section 1112 of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. Title I is a federal program based upon income levels of families whose children attend these schools. The program ensures that students are equipped to meet high standards of academic performance. Schoolwide Title I resources support schools with a high percentage of low-income families, but allow services to be provided to any student in that school.
    Schoolwide Title I programs use funds to provide such interventions as before and/or after school instructional services, summer intervention programs, more instructional time and enrichment opportunities for students, and increased professional development for staff members. We believe that we can offer your child the best possible education by using this model in our school.
    Parents of Evans International Elementary School students have the right to know the professional qualifications of the classroom teacher who instructs your child. This is a requirement for all districts that receive Title I funds. Federal law allows you to request certain information about your student’s classroom teacher. The law also requires the district to give you this information in a timely manner upon request.
    Below is the information about which you have the right to ask for regarding each of your student’s classroom teachers:
    • Whether the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) has licensed or endorsed your student’s teacher for the grades and subjects taught.
    • Whether CDE has decided that your student’s teacher can teach in a classroom without being licensed or qualified under state regulations because of special circumstances.
    • The teacher’s college major; whether the teacher has any advanced degrees, and, if so, the subject of the degrees.
    • Whether any teachers’ aides or similar para-educators provide services to your child and, if they do, their qualifications.
    As a part of our Schoolwide Title I Program, we will also be offering you expanded opportunities to become involved in your child’s educational program and school. We will offer Family Literacy Activities throughout the school year and encourage you to attend. We encourage you to visit our school, attend parent-teacher conferences, and communicate with your child’s teacher and other school staff regarding any questions or concerns you may have. Parent & Community Notification

  • Each school served under Title I must notify parents of its written parental involvement policy in an understandable and uniform format, including alternative formats upon request, and, to the extent practicable, provide notice and the policy in a language the parents can understand. In addition, each school must make its written parental involvement policy available to the local community. (Department of Education, Parental Involvement: Title I, Part A)

District 49 Title 1 Commitment

  • District 49's Title I programs work to address the needs of a school's lowest performing students and those students found to be at most risk for not meeting state academic standards.  Our Title I schools include:
    District 49's poverty index is 31.80 percent. Schools at all levels are funded as Title I if their Free and Reduced Lunch Program participation percentage is higher than than 40 percent.
    Our Title I schools receive additional resources to help ensure that all children have the opportunity to receive a quality education, resulting in their attainment of high academic standards. Title I status is used to allocate resources to districts and schools whose needs are the greatest. The program is the largest Elementary and Secondary Education Act program supporting both elementary and secondary education. The U.S. Department of Education allocates funds based on census poverty rates from ages 5 through 17. Essentially, Title I focuses on providing additional instructional time in the areas of reading and math. Ways in which schools in District 49 use Title I dollars include:
    • Hiring additional teachers and para-professionals and instructional coaches
    • Paying for tutoring for students who need extra support
    • Purchasing materials and supplies for programs and strategies
    • Providing Professional Development opportunities for teachers
    • Increasing parent involvement
    • Assisting professional development
