At Odyssey Elementary, the role of educators will evolve from a traditional model of information delivery to a model in which educators design dynamic learning experiences and coach students at the point of need. Our teachers will be innovative while implementing practices that engage, motivate, and challenge. A wide range of tools will provide educators with a variety of methods for accessing and personalizing their own work. A blended model will enable teachers to transform the classroom from a place to sit and receive instruction to one where learners share ideas, build team capacity, and leverage individual talents.
To enhance personalization, our teachers will have point-of-need access to relevant learner data that focuses on a range of demonstrated whole child competencies, enabling them to better know their learners. We will adapt planning, delivery methods, and options to individual needs, designing experiences that are strengths-based and interest-driven.
A positive school culture that extends beyond the walls of the school will promote collaborative planning and delivery with other teachers as well as local and global experts. We will provide access to authentic challenges for learners facilitated by “best fit” human resources both in school and beyond their assigned teacher. Mentors, coaches, and guest speakers will be accessible through digital communication, face-to-face meetings, and virtual field expeditions to career-centered sites.
By cultivating an environment conducive to innovation and personalization, teachers at Odyssey Elementary will experience the highest levels of job satisfaction.

POWER Zone Overview
The POWER Zone is comprised of six unique and excellent schools across the northwest portion of District 49: Vista Ridge High School, Skyview Middle School, Inspiration View Elementary School, Ridgeview Elementary School, ALLIES, and Odyssey Elementary School. Although each POWER Zone school is unique, we are guided by a shared vision, mission, and values.

POWER Zone leaders, teachers, and support staff function to ensure a safe and collaborative culture, effective teaching in every classroom, and a guaranteed and viable curriculum. Research-based resources are utilized in our work. The Capturing Kids' Heart process provides an inspiring relational framework that is used across our six campuses. Marzano's High Reliability Schools framework and the New Art & Science of Teaching instructional framework provide processes, elements, and strategies that promise a strong focus on teaching and learning and an excellent educational experience for every student.
The demonstration of Knowledge and skills integrated across multiple content areas and driven through personalized learning pathways.
Personalized learning is a student centered learning model where students gain more ownership over their learning and more voice with their teacher about how they learn best. This process allows students to have more choice over how they demonstrate their learning. Through developing strong problem solving and critical thinking skills students can create a clear path to competency based learning and skill development.
School Safety & Climate
When we mention school climate, we're referring to a school's quality and character, along with the values expressed during social interactions. With a Capturing Kids Hearts philosophy reinforced annually, and permeating across the zone, every educator is equipped with specific strategies to help increase our effectiveness with the young people we serve.
Our parents must know their children are safe. Our students must feel safe to learn. The importance of ensuring a safe and secure learning environment is universally seen as one the most important indicators to our community.
Portfolio of Schools
District 49 will create a robust portfolio of distinct and exceptional schools. It’s not enough just to have a bunch of different kinds of schools; the district needs to have high quality, exceptional schools. District 49 strives to offer wonderful schools in all of its zones, schools that are different from each other and superior to the options students might have in neighboring districts and communities.District 49’s board-approved strategic plan provides unified vision, goals and strategies to prepare students to achieve like never before. Its strategic plan is organized around a big rocks metaphor. If the district identifies and focuses on what's most important – its big rocks of trust, community, best district, portfolio of schools and every student – and then adds other things around them, the medium-sized rocks, and finally works in the pebbles, everything better fits together. District 49 has applied this metaphor in its strategic plan, which identifies the district's Big Rocks. These strategic initiatives will be emphasized over the upcoming years, representing the district’s commitment to its community. These five rocks are its foundation for building an excellent future with its staff, students and greater community.
