School District 49

Kindergarten

When Should My Child Start Kindergarten?

Children must turn 5 years old on or before October 1st to enroll in kindergarten.

My child missed the October 1st cutoff, what can I do?

  1. Contact the principal and they can determine that they are willing to accept your child early.
  2. If accepted early, you will be given an acceptance letter.
  3. The acceptance letter will need to be uploaded to the child's application in the acceptance letter section.

Which school will my child attend?

For current school boundaries, visit our district map.

If you'd like to enroll in a school outside your neighborhood boundary, check our School of Choice page.

Where will my child catch the bus?

Bus stop information will be provided to you via your Parent Portal account.

Visit our Transportation page for more information.

***Please Note: Due to the continuous growth in District 49, the boundaries of the neighborhood elementary schools have the potential to change each school year.
