Degrees and Certifications:

Ms. Tondalaya Crites

I came to Sand Creek High School from Baltimore, Maryland where I spent 11 years teaching Visual Art and ESOL in the Baltimore City Public School System. There I learned the importance of mutual respect and honoring the beauty within each student, regardless of background, socio-economic status, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, or race. Prior to my teaching career, I was a Professional Photographer for 8 years, and still shoot professionally here in Colorado Springs. In 1998 I received a BFA in Photography from Columbus College of Art and Design. I earned my Master's Degree in Art from Maryland College of Art and Design in 2010. My love of learning and desire to teach the whole student drives my work. I'm passionate about photography, especially alternative processes, which I use to create personal artwork.

I believe in a holistic approach to teaching, where I hope to make each and every student feel safe, respected, and free to be creative. I am very excited to begin my second year here at Sand Creek High School, and cannot wait to inspire my students in 2D and Digital Photography.

In my free time, you can catch me dancing to my favorite bands, taking photographs, and talking nonstop about my two cats Picasso and Etta.
