Professional Experience
2022-2023 will be my 17th year as an educator. I started my career in education in 2006 as an ELL intervention teacher in a title 1 school in southern California for grades 4-6. In 2008, my family and I made an interstate move to Colorado. It was there that I continued working in elementary education at Cheyenne Mountain School District 12 as a resource and Gifted and Talented teacher for grades K-6. After a year as a resource specialist and GT teacher, I transitioned to another elementary school in the district to teach 3rd grade. I remained a 3rd grade teacher for 7 years before moving to 6th grade. I was a 6th grade teacher for three years before moving to Falcon School District 49, which was much closer to my residence. My first assignment in D49 was teaching 4th grade at Evans International Elementary School before transitioning in 2019 to IVES as a 5th grade teacher.
Educational Background
After graduating from high school, I moved from Huntington Beach, California to Miami, Florida. It was there that I achieved my AA degree at Miami Dade Junior College in Journalism. From there, I returned to southern California and graduated from the University of California, San Diego with a bachelor’s degree in Communication. I eventually achieved my multicultural teaching endorsement from California State University of Long Beach. After my move to Colorado, I returned to school to achieve my master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs.
Family and Hobbies
My wife is an social studies teacher in Academy School District 20 at Air Academy High School. We live in Banning Lewis Ranch and have been happily married for almost 24 years. We have two children. My son Dylan, who is 10, who is transitioning into the 5th grade at IVES and my daughter Lauren, who is 18 and will be entering the freshman class this fall at Colorado State University, Fort Collins. I am an avid mountain biker, so in my spare time I enjoy exploring the many trail systems that Colorado Springs has to offer. I also enjoy attending my son's Pride soccer games and spending time with my family enjoying outdoor activities in Colorado Springs.
