Dear Families,

My name is Laurie Nelson and I am delighted to be your child's first grade teacher!  I have many fun ideas and am excited about our school year.  I especially enjoy teaching children how to read, and look forward to developing a life-long love of literature with my students.  Nothing brings me greater joy than spending my day with young children who are so eager to learn!

 

I have taught for 19 years, 14 of these in fabulous District 49.  I have taught kindergarten, first grade, third grade and art in Texas, Oklahoma and Colorado.  Last spring I entered the unknown territory of E-learning at Inspiration View, which provided a great opportunity to grow as an educator.  I graduated from Oklahoma State and later earned a Masters in Literacy from Eastern Washington University.

 

I have been married to my husband Brian for 35 years, and have three wonderful sons, Matthew, Jeremy and Cody.  I also have a terrific daughter-in-law, Kelly, and am so lucky that all of them live in Colorado Springs.  For fun I enjoy traveling with my family and spending time with friends.  Most of my free time is spent reading, scrapbooking, or hiking.

 

Building relationships with parents and children is my top priority, and I value frequent communication.  If you need to touch base, please catch me at dismissal or email lnelson@d49.org.  I will respond within 24 hours Monday through Friday, but usually respond the same day.

 

It is going to be a year of exciting learning adventures, and I look forward to meeting you and your child!
