My classroom motto is the following quote by Aristotle: "Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all." As an English Language Arts teacher, I emphasize to students the importance and power of reading, as it allows each and every one of us to join the world, the feelings, and the lives of others. Reading, of all things, teaches us how to empathize with each other. Writing, on the other hand, teaches us how to better communicate with each other. Teaching students reading and writing is teaching them to be better empaths and communicators as they leave our classrooms and enter the real world. I believe in empowering students through reading and writing by emphasizing how these skills apply to the world beyond the classroom. I believe in creating a comfortable, consistent, and creative learning environment that allows students to take ownership of how they master English Language Arts standards. In other words, I believe in students having autonomy and voice when it comes to their education, so that they have a more individualized and meaningful learning experience overall. I strive to help each and every student discover the joy and power of reading and writing, and furthermore grow as critical thinkers, empaths, and communicators throughout the year.
I am looking forward to an amzing year with you all! If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. You can access my virtual classroom by clicking here.
