Degrees and Certifications:
I was born in Westminster, Colorado to a family of musicians, artists and accountants. The arts have always been a part of my life, both performing and visual. (I have MANY other interests and passions as well).
I grew up in Colorado Springs, and attended District 20 schools. I later attended Fort Lewis College and earned a degree in Art with an emphasis in education. While working as an art teacher for The Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, Bemis School of Art, I was asked to be part of the cadre of teachers chosen to open The da Vinci Academy, an all arts based elementary school. After two years I had resigned in order to focus on my master’s degree.
Very unexpectedly, I was offered a job teaching elementary school art for the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) and asked to move to Guam for a two year contract. That initial two years fostered a love for tropical life and the opportunity to travel to exotic local, and that kept me there for the next 14 years!
As we all know, many things change over a chunk of time like that, and with the addition of a wife, a couple of dogs and a baby on the way (little Zoë Mapson was born Aug 11, 2019), we decided to move home to Colorado Springs.
We’re happy to be members of the BRES staff and community, and look forward to being an integral part of school life around here!
