Welcome to 6th Grade Social Studies (also known as Humanities).  My name is Chad Fetyko (my last name is pronounced Fet-ko). I started teaching in 2015 and have been at Horizon since 2019. I taught in Harrison D2 school district at Carmel Middle School where I taught 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade Individual Societies to Non-English Proficient (NEP) students.  It was wonderful to be able to teach students from all over the world; Afghanistan, Mexico, Cuba, Germany, Honduras, and Vietnam just to name a few.  Before that, I spent just over 20 years in the United States Army.  I lived for five years in Germany, as well as deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan.  I grew up mostly in Minnesota, but also in New York.  

 

I have two Master's degrees, one in secondary education and the other in history.  I just finished my Masters in history in 2018 online.  I did this while I was already a teacher because I love history and continue to study and read about it after all my schooling was finished.  My social studies classes were always my favorite subject in school. I also enjoy watching baseball, collecting old baseball cards, running as well as art when I am not teaching. I can appreciate D49 as I live in the area and my daughter went to elementary through high school in the district.
