• Student Comments Investigated Thurs. Nov. 14: No Credible Threat to IVES Campus

Posted by David Nancarrow on 11/14/2019

Dear Inspiration View Elementary School Families,

IVES administrators are working closely with POWER Zone and district leadership to investigate and address threatening statements made by a student at IVES during school Thursday.

On Thursday, the administration at IVES learned that a student made a threatening statement during an interaction at lunch with other students. School leaders immediately contacted the student involved and began a thorough investigation. After speaking with the student and the student’s parents IVES administrators determined there was no credible threat, or danger to the school.

Even as IVES leadership investigated and addressed the situation, a discussion of Thursday’s events continued on social media into the evening. Given the seriousness of any threatening report, we want to reassure all of our families that there is no credible threat to the safety of students, staff, guests, or the IVES campus. Accordingly, IVES will maintain our normal schedule Friday and administrators will assign appropriate consequences for the student involved.

The safety of students, families and staff on our campuses is non-negotiable. We consider comments like the ones described unacceptable, and take them very seriously. We encourage all of our students and families to stay alert and report any suspicious activity. We thank you for your trust, understanding and support in this matter. We will remain proactive to ensure a safe learning environment awaits every District 49 learner.

    Sincerely,

    David Nancarrow

    Director of Communications
