Mr. Alexander Javizian
My name is Alexander Javizian (or Mr. J as many of my students and colleagues call me) and I am excited to announce that I will be your child’s music teacher at Bennett Ranch Elementary School. This year marks my 7th year of teaching music and my 1st at B.R.E.S.
I grew up in Parkland, Florida (just on the outskirts of Ft. Lauderdale) and was heavily involved in music from a young age, starting with a band in 5th grade and continuing with music throughout high school and college, performing with marching bands, wind ensembles, jazz bands, orchestras, pit orchestras for musicals, and indoor drumlines. After I graduated high school, I earned my B.A. in Music Education from Florida Atlantic University with percussion as my primary instrument. I earned my certificate from the State of Florida for K-12 Music during this time as well. From there, I earned my masters in Musicology at the University of Miami, studying the folk and popular musics of Latin America and the Caribbean. After my masters, I spent the past 6 years as a music teacher in South Florida teaching both elementary and middle school classes. My classes have focused on topics including general music, music appreciation, world hand drumming, band, guitar, and percussion ensemble. I made the decision this year to move out to Colorado after living and teaching in Florida all my life, but I am extremely excited to be continuing both the music and band programs at Bennett Ranch Elementary this year!
Outside the classroom, some of my interests and hobbies include mountain biking, playing guitar, trivia nights, hiking, reading, and going to concerts. One of the items on my bucket list for years has been to attend a concert at Red Rocks, which I’m definitely looking forward to doing one day once I’m settled in.
