MA Special Education

Ms. Chrysauna Piccolo

Greetings! I am thrilled to start my sixth year as one of the resource teachers at Evans! I can't wait to see my students from last year and meet the new students that have enrolled and transferred to our school. I know that I will continue to help students grow and build upon their strengths!

I taught at Evans in the social communication program for 6 years prior to becoming a resource teacher. The teachers at Evans truly want what is best for kids and will gladly go that extra mile to help students to be successful! The strong collaboration between special education and general education teachers increases the success of our students.

I grew up on the Oregon Coast in Lincoln City. After graduation, I obtained my Bachelor's Degree as a double major in French and Sociology at the University of Oregon. I moved to Colorado after completing my Bachelor's Degree to be closer to some of my family and experience a new state. After working in the mental health field for a couple of years, I went back to school and earned a Master's Degree in Special Education from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.

I am a member of the student literacy team and reading instruction is my passion. Our team will continue our training in best practices for teaching reading this year and has received extensive training in reading instruction through LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) and the Orton Gillingham Method. This thorough approach will be invaluable in providing the most effective reading instruction for students and helping them become proficient readers. I am also honored to serve as the special education team lead and enjoy mentoring special education teachers and being a resource for parents of students with special needs.

In my free time, I enjoy skiing, usually at Monarch Mountain with my teenage daughter. I also enjoy hiking, biking, reading, shopping and traveling. I am committed to being a lifelong learner and continue to take classes in my leisure time to expand my knowledge and continually improve teaching strategies.
