Mrs. KayLee Parson
I'm an artist and art teacher from Texas. My husband, three huskies, and I moved here in August 2015. This is my first year as a Firebird at FMS, however I previously taught art in an elementary school in Texas and to female inmates at the Lubbock County Prison. My artistic career started when I was in high school and managing an art studio in Frisco, Texas. From there I went to Art School at Texas Tech University and studied abroad in Italy. Throughout the last 10 years I have been a part of many short term teaching programs that have allowed me to teach in Japan, Honduras, The Dominican Republic, and Columbia. A little more about me: I love extreme sports, Disney princess movies, community service, reading, yoga, and coffee.
Begining this year, the 2D Art classes at FMS will be learning more art history along with their focused skill (drawing or painting). Each unit will begin with a lecuture on specific artist before begining our own art project. I want students to know that art goes so much further than Van Gogh's Starry Night. We will be learning about male & female artists from around the world who are alive and current successful artists. Hopefully each student that goes through one of my classes finds an artist that they can relate to and someone who inspires them.
Art On The Hoof7th & 8th grade students currently in my art classes have the opportunity to show their work at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo August 28th. The top 10 pieces from my classes will be donated to their annual art auction to raise funds for animal conservation and enrichment. The next top 40 will be shown in a gallery in the Lodge at Moose Lake. This is a great opportunity for students to get involved in the community and give back to a great cause! More information will be sent home with students whose work will be shown.
