Ms. Kathy Schmidt
I am beginning my 17th year of teaching. The first ten years were spent teaching mathematics to high school and middle school students. Upon receiving my Career and Technical Education (CTE) endorsement I transitioned to teaching CTE classes. This year I will be teaching the following: 6th Grade Computer Applications, 7th Grade Computer Science for Innovators and Makers, 8th Grade Computer Science, and 8th Grade Design and Modeling. Each grade level also receives instruction in Digital Citizenship, the Design Process and best practices for computer use.
I am also the staff mentor for the Cyber Patriot Club. We competed in 2019 and did very well. We were able to begin a team again last spring and I look forward to seeing those students again as well as any new members. All grade levels are welcome! In our first year of competition the team made it to the Semi-Finals! It was hard work and the students had fun while learning the ins and outs of Cyber Security.
Teaching involves being a life-long learner and I truly enjoy to spend time learning about new tech tools, coding options and pedagogy. When I am not teaching or learning for school I can be found learning to play my Dulcimer, reading a good book, relaxing with my cats, hanging out with my son, hiking and camping.
I look forward to this school year whatever it brings and I can't wait to meet your students!
