I am so excited to be teaching 7th grade Math at Horizon Middle School this year! I have been teaching for over 16 years after a previous career as an engineer. I have lived in the Colorado Springs area for most of my adult life, but am originally from Michigan. I like the weather here so much better! I have a son, Devon, who graduated from Falcon High School in 2013. I enjoy traveling and learning about different cultures. I have two dogs and a cat currently and previously had a wolf for a pet! That was an experience! I also do volunteer work for the Sierra Club and am currently the Wildlife Chair for the Pikes Peak Group. A big project I am working on with the Sierra Club is coexistence education between wolves and people with the reintroduction of wolves to Colorado (Colorado voters voted to return wolves to Colorado in the 2020 election).

      I have high expectations of all of my students in math and believe proficient math skills are attainable for all students. I believe in teaching students to have a Growth Mindset - that we are not born with a "set intelligence", but we can all achieve success through hard work and effort. I tutor after school most days for an hour to be available to all students for extra support. I will also be available for tutoring on Wednesdays at 6PM using Zoom throughout the year unless no students take advantage of this opportunity. This is intended to help students who are stuck on their homework at home and cannot stay after school for Study Lab.
