SCHS Updates

  • High school students from Colorado and surrounding states play as the green wind band during Festival of Winds at CSU-Pueblo.
    SCHS Senior Earns $11,700 Scholarship at Festival of Winds - Ten Sand Creek High School music students participated in four concert bands at the ninth annual Festival of Winds at Colorado State University-Pueblo Feb. 23-25. More than 360 high school students in Colorado and neighboring states are recommended by band directors to be in one of four concert honor bands.

    Twelfth-grader Zach Van Hook, 18, earned a CSU-Pueblo scholorship valued at $11,700 during his audition as a percussionist. The scholarship is provided by the CSU-Pueblo music department and the CSU-Pueblo Foundation. "Zach is an accomplished percussionist," said Ray Bell, SCHS music instructor. "He earned his scholarship based on an audition he did for the music faculty the first morning. It's a great accomplishment."

    Whiteout and blizzard conditions caused the closure of several roads in the Pikes Peak region March 24. U.S. Highway 24 was closed in both directions from Constitution Avenue in Colorado Springs to Interstate 70 in Limon for several hours during the morning commute.
