Meeting Notes for WHES BAAC

February 11, 200

 

The meeting was called to order at 5:00pm

 Members present included:

  • Karen Yanko

Approval of Agenda

Grade Level Reports:

  • Kindergarten recently celebrated the 100th day of school with an afternoon of special activities and stations that focused on the number 100.  Valentine’s Day Parties for ˝ day will be on the 13th due to Parent Teacher Conferences.  The team is meeting weekly to discuss their book study book Differentiation and Instruction in Kindergarten.
  • 1st grade has also celebrated the 100th day of school and are planning a Valentine’s Day Brunch.  The students are working on Moon Journals and the writing process.  In Math they are focusing on fact families and in Social Studies Colorado and US symbols
  • 3rd grade is preparing students for the upcoming CSAP tests beginning Feb. 20th.  They are working on Main Idea, Topic Sentences, and Noun/Verb agreement.  They are preparing for the Unit 5 test in Math which focuses on place value and decimals. 
  • 5th grade Science Fair projects will be due on Feb. 19th.  All classes are preparing for the CSAP testing which begins in March.  A Field Trip to the Denver Science Museum is in the planning stages for April.
  • 6th grade will be celebrating Valentine’s Day with an end-of-day party on Thursday.  CSAP preparations are also happening in 6th grade.  Focusing on Reading, Writing, Math, and how to save time during the test.

 All grade levels are completing Parent-Teacher Conferences

  Assistant Principal Report

  • Deputy Walk Through was planned for 2-11-08 to check our safety plan; however, the officers did not arrive today.
  • Kids for Kosovo packages have arrived and been dispursed.  More information and pictures can be found on the district web site
  • PBS Focus of the week:  Random Acts of Kindness and Compassion—outside your “circle” of friends
  • See Agenda for upcoming dates in February and March

 Open Forum:

            Lisa Reid shared information about allocation of fundraiser money including:

v     Higher Level Books for the Leveled Book Room in sets of 6

v     2 Digital Cameras

v     Book Magnifier for the Library

v     Art Room:  Drying rack and new paper cutter

Any further requests may be submitted to PTA for approval at the next meeting.

Mr. Roybal shared information for the District Safety Director including a need to purchase a radio for direct communication with Central Office in case of emergencies.
