Meeting Notes for WHES BAAC

September 26, 2007

 

The meeting was called to order at 5:05pm

 

Members present included:

Karen Yanko, David Power, Mr. and Mrs. Roybal,, Dee Thomas, Melissa Riggs, Susan Ratliff

 

Melissa Riggs agreed to record minutes

David Power agreed to be the time keeper

 

Meeting Norms were set

 

Future Meeting Dates were shared

Updated Mission statement was shared

 

Grade Level Reports:

§        Kindergarten is working on their Color Unit and will begin Fall Harvest/Pumpkins in October

·        1st grade will be on a Field Trip to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo

·        6th grade is implementing new Scantron tests.  The reading tests took longer than expected as the tests continue until student is at a Frustration Level.  The tests are similar to SRI, but include Science, Math, Social Studies, and Reading

 

Assistant Principal Report

·        PBS implementation was discussed at Estes Park this summer

·        2 classrooms that have been closed will re-open after Fall Break

·        Conferences will be held the 1st week in October

Different Progress Reports for 6th grade:  Parents appreciate the new system, but if can be difficult for teachers to track the returned reports and some parents are still not informed despite best efforts

 

o       New 4th grade teacher:  need 2 more students to enroll at that grade level and hope to open new class after Fall Break

o       New Science Kits at all grade levels

o       1st and 3rd grade are piloting a Math program

o       Current enrollment at approximately 826

o       DAAC meeting:  2 more Charter Schools have been approved

o       Upcoming Activities:

o       Kids for Kosovo donations

o       Family Fun Night

o       Book Fair

o       Looking for a new Band teacher

 

Security

o       Doors are locked between 9am and 3pm

o       Card system will be installed over Fall Break

o       Police department would like all schools to be on the same “page” for lockdowns and emergencies

o       1st Fire Drill:  slow but effective

o       Lockdown Drill before Fall Break

o       New member coming on at Administrative level to be in charge of school safety.  Main job will be to create consistency within D49

 

 

PBS

o       Big improvements in behavior

o       Less referrals

o       PBS team will have 2 more training dates

o       All staff is on board with the program

o       Parent input:  “world of difference”
