21st
Century Skills
The needs of
today's students are vastly different than those of the
past. Our children have grown up in the digital age, and
may very well enter careers that don't even exist yet.
We believe we must prepare all students through core
content knowledge as well as 21st Century Skills such as
critical thinking, communication, problem-solving and
creative thinking. Students must also be able to utilize
technology to learn and communicate.
In every
class taught at VRHS, students will study five
major strands: core content, technology literacy, civic
literacy, leadership skills and critical thinking
skills.
Advanced Placement Program
We believe
in the ability of all students to excel in school. Vista
Ridge will develop a strong Advanced Placement Program
(AP) with course offerings in a variety of disciplines
to meet the interests and needs of students. Our goal is
to encourage every student to enroll in at least one AP
course before graduation. We will utilize pre-AP
strategies across the curriculum to challenge students
and prepare them to choose AP courses if they desire.
interdisciplinary Teaming
The latest
research in high school reform has revealed that
students perform better and build lasting relationships
when they belong to a small learning community. Every
student in ninth and tenth grades will belong to a
"pack", sharing the same core teachers as other students
in their "pack".
