OUR VISION
OUR HISTORY
Vista Ridge High School opened in the
fall of 2008-2009 as the newest high school in
Falcon District 49. We are a STEM (Science,
Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) focus school
while still serving all students with a
comprehensive curriculum program. As a new high
school to relieve serious over crowding at Sand
Creek High School, we opened in 08-09 with Ninth
and Tenth grade students. Each year we will expand
by a grade level so that by 2010-2011 we will have
all grades 9 -12. Vista Ridge will have a full
complement of athletics and co-curricular
activities.
Our Facilities - "going green"
The
building was constructed following the standards
established by the U.S. Green Building Council and the LEED™ (Leadership in Energy and
Environmental Development) guidelines. The construction
project incorporated multiple
energy-saving and environmental-friendly features. Some
of these features include: high efficiency heating and
cooling systems; use of recycled materials for
construction; construction design for maximum natural
sunlight; and the use of low or no-VOC paints, sealants
and adhesives to maintain high indoor air quality. To
find out more about the LEED rating system and building
Green schools, visit the
U.S. Green Building Council website.
7-Period Day Schedule
Vista Ridge operates on a 7-period modified
block schedule that will be a pilot structure in Falcon
District 49 for the 2008-09 school year. Students attend
all seven classes on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday for
approximately 48 minutes
each. On Wednesday and Thursday, classes will be an
extended block time, with half of the classes meeting on
each day. We believe this schedule structure provides students with new benefits including better
teacher and student relationships and improved academic
achievement. In addition, a weekly advisory period and
additional elective course will meet on Thursdays.
