World War One Expo

We had an awesome time at our first ever World War One Expo. We turned the library into a huge history museum and had all kinds of student projects on display - from dioramas and scrapbooks to board games and PowerPoint presentations. This two-day show ended with parents and community members touring the museum during our Open House.

We've got some great pictures for you to check out and a huge congrats to our winners:

Great job everyone! We'll definitely do it again next year!

Books of the Month: February Winners

This month's Book of the Month winners are Monkey Town for 8th grade, Small Steps for 7th Grade, and Fever 1793 for 6th grade. Read more about these books and check out past winners on our Books of the Month page.

Thanks for a GREAT Book Fair!

Well, we're back at it and hopefully recovered after the holidays and the blizzards. Before we left for break, we held the first of two book fairs this year. This is a fun week where we turn the library into a bookstore and students can browse and buy all sorts of great books, posters, computer software, and other silly trinkets.

After tallying up our sales, we were able to raise over $1200 for the library, which will go directly to purchasing books and materials for Skyview Students! This is an important fundraiser that helps us expand our collection and provide students with the best new resources. We can't thank you enough for your support and making this a great success!

Be ready for the Spring book fair in April and take a look at some great book fair photos.

Egypt Day Photos

We have some great photos of last week's Egypt Day in our online photo galleries. Teachers from the Denver Museum of Science helped our 6th graders learn all about Egyptian culture and history. They even went through the entire mummification process and help mummify a "real" body.

What are Your Teachers Reading??

Check out our Teacher Picks page to learn all about your teachers' favorite books and why they like them so much. Find out why Ms. Miller loves historical fiction or what Mrs. Magnall read when she was in middle school.

Books of the Month: December Winners

This month's Book of the Month winners are Day of Tears for 8th grade, Heat for 7th Grade, and Runny Babbit for 6th grade. Read more about these books and check out past winners on our Books of the Month page.

Breaking Reading Records!

September was a record breaking month for the Skyview Library. Our library circulation system is able to tell us statistics on how many books were checked out for a certain time period. In September, Skyview students checked out an amazing total of 3299 books...the most books checked out in any month since the school opened! Keep up the good reading!

Books of the Month: November Winners

November will be the first month for our new Books of the Month award. Mr. Lewis will pick 3 books per month (one for each grade level) that he thinks are some of the absolute best books in the library. Check 'em out and tell Mr. Lewis what you think...you might just get a special prize.

This month's winners are The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time for 8th grade, The Prophet of Yonwood for 7th Grade, and Framed! for 6th grade. You can read more about these books and where to find them on our Books of the Month page.

Introducing the Student Resource Center

We're happy to announce a great new research tool that is now available to our students. Skyview is now subscribing to the Student Resource Center, which is an electronic research database that lets Skyview students access all kinds of great information like books, encyclopedia articles and multimedia content. This information is available from home, from school and any other place with an internet connection. It's like having an entire research library at your fingertips...with no unsafe content, no pop-up ads and much more relevant results than Google or Yahoo!.

New Books!

We've just received an enormous truckload of brand new fiction books! These titles are hot off the presses and are waiting to be checked out. We've got the latest books in popular series such as Cirque du Freak, The Clique, Sammy Keyes, Georgia Nicolson and many more!

Author Steven Layne Visits Skyview

Last Thursday, we had the pleasure of welcoming young adult author Dr. Steven Layne to Skyview for a day-long visit with our 7th and 8th graders. Dr. Layne is the author of This Side of Paradise and the new book Mergers. Almost all of our 7th and 8th grade students have read This Side of Paradise and absolutely loved it.

Dr. Layne put on two wonderful presentations where he discussed his life, how the publishing process works and read some passages from Mergers. He even gave us the special treat of reading the first chapter of his newest work in progress, which is a sequel to Paradise. The rest of the day was spent autographing books and meeting with students in the library.

We can't believe how excited our students were about meeting Dr. Layne. The waiting list to check out Mergers from the library is over 15 students long!

Be sure to check out the great photos from this fantastic day!
