Math Club

How to Join: Open to all grade levels; love of math and willingness to work in groups is required
Skyview's Math Club joins together 6th, 7th, and 8th graders who enjoy the challenges of math. Math Club is an extra-curricular activity in which students learn how to work through challenging math problems as individuals as well as with a group of their peers. There are several opportunities to compete against other students in their grade level both at Skyview and across Colorado Springs.
Attendance/Meetings
mATHLETES will be meeting every Tuesday from 2:50-3:30 in Mrs. Shealy’s room 213.
Meetings are not mandatory to be a mATHLETE, but attendance will help you to understand challenging math problems better. We will also be taking attendance into consideration when choosing members to participate in the inter-school competitions.
If you are in any other after school activities, you can still be a mATHLETE. Check with your activity sponsor/coach about attending the Math Club meetings on Tuesdays until 3:30. Try and make a plan that will work for each of you.
Fee
There is a $10 fee to be in the Skyview Math Club. This fee will cover some of the tests and competitions throughout the year as well as a mATHLETES t-shirt. Each student, once the fee is paid, is guaranteed at least two competitions – this does not include the inter-school competitions. If you choose not to pay the fee, you may still attend practices with the Math Club, but you will not be participating in any competitions nor will you receive a t-shirt. Please make checks payable to Skyview Middle School.
Practices
Practices will consist of a variety of activities to prepare us for competitions and tests throughout the year. Some activities that we will do are; games, practice tests, group problems, and more!
Competitions
There are different types of competitions that we will be attempting throughout the year. Nearly each month there will be a “test” competition that will take place at Skyview with our own mATHLETES. There will be awards and prizes for these competitions.
Other competitions will take place against other schools. This year, the League Math Meet will be hosted by Skyview’s Math Club and will be held at Skyview. This competition will only be attended by 5 members from each grade level.
