Positive Behavior Support (PBS)
Skyview Middle School is excited to announce our implementation of Positive Behavior Support (PBS). PBS is a program that emphasizes school-wide support that includes proactive strategies for teaching, and supporting appropriate student behaviors to create a positive school environment. A range of positive behavior support for all students is implemented in areas including the classroom and non-classroom settings.
REACH
The staff at SMS has come up with a new acronym to support our student population. The acronym is REACH. REACH stands for Respect, Effort, Accountability, Citizenship, and Honesty.
Positive Reinforcements
When students are showing behaviors that follow the REACH model students will receive an extrinsic or verbal reinforcement.
Positive reinforcements to recognize our students for exemplary and model behaviors are:
- REACH Slips
- Eagle Feathers
- Positive Referrals
- Positive Postcards
Click here to see how these reinforcements fit together (PDF file). Students will be able to use their REACH slips to obtain prizes from our PBS store. The PBS store is going to require a lot of financial assistance to keep it up and running. If you or any businesses are willing to donate monetary or products to the store, we would greatly appreciate your generosity.
Behavior Matrix
The students and staff have been working hard to complete our matrix. The matrix explains how behaviors should look in every area of the school. Using this matrix will give students the knowledge of appropriate behaviors and a common language used by all staff members.
Please refer back to our website in a couple of weeks to see the completed matrix and other advancements made by our staff and students.
