Principal's Message...

I am currently living one of my greatest professional dreams- opening Odyssey in 2006. I’d like to introduce myself as the Principal of Odyssey Elementary. Many people have been busy getting ready for students this fall and I can feel the excitement as students, parents and staff prepare for a new year in a new school.

Odyssey Elementary is proud to be recognized as a math/science school with a space emphasis. What does this mean for our students? First of all, rest assured, reading and writing will have the same emphasis as in any other school. There are a number of ways the staff at Odyssey will be emphasizing math/science and space. Teachers at Odyssey have a passion for math and science. Many teachers are recognized as being teacher liaisons for the Space Foundation located here in Colorado Springs. We partner regularly with NASA to support space integration. Our Trailblazer Math program has a strong science component. Our library and leveled bookroom have been loaded with non-fiction science titles to entice students to be able to read for information. All subject areas are integrated into our day, meaning that writing and science, for example, are actually taught simultaneously. Our wireless technology and additional rolling laptop cart will allow for us to explore science and space through various media resources through the internet and satellite connections. Finally, guest speakers and presentations will be incorporated as a way to bring the outside world into the classroom. These are just a few ways we hope to make our school a motivating place for our students that will catapult their desire for careers of the future.

While Odyssey has a strong focus on student achievement, it is also a goal that Odyssey becomes an integral part of the neighboring community. We look forward to being a “hub” of community events that draw people in. Our PTA is vibrant with ideas and goals. It reiterates that one person can do little, while many can do so much. Your input and involvement is vital in the success of our students and we truly can’t do our work without your help. Please consider getting involved in a way that benefits our children.

Your involvement in our school and events planned throughout the year will assist us in building a partnership through education. Thank you for the opportunity to educate your child.

Sincerely,

Pam Weyer
