What is PTO?

PTO stands for Parent Teacher Organization.  It is an organization made up of parents, teachers, and community citizens that work together to promote the welfare of students.

PTO relies on volunteers to accomplish its goals.  Volunteers provide time, talents, baked goods ideas, etc. when needed.

Policies of the organization are stated in detail in the by-laws.  You may request a copy of the by-laws at any time for review.

PTO meetings are scheduled monthly at 4:30pm in the school library.  They fall on the second Tuesday of the month (unless school is not in session).

Our PTO is an organization within the school and has no national or state affiliation.  A PTA belongs to these organizations and receives support and guidance from them.  They are required to pay dues, some of which goes to the state and national organizations.  A PTO is not required to charge dues to its membership.  (We have chosen not to charge dues at this time.)

Membership attendance enables you to make decisions within the organization and will keep you informed.  You may, however, be an active member without attending the monthly meetings by serving on the various committees.

What does PTO accomplish?

The PTO purchases various educational materials for Evans, i.e. dictionaries, computers, library books, classroom maps, scales, globes, etc.

PTO sponsors many educational programs such as the Science Fair and provides the ribbons for the Art Show and Field Day activities.

PTO acquires money from many fundraising projects throughout the year.  Some of these include the Fall and Spring fundraising programs that we use.  We encourage selling to friends and family.  There is enough response from this that we do not have to endanger the children’s safety by going door-to-door.  The Fall fundraiser has, in the past, brought in the largest amount of money to our PTO.

What is the PTO vision?

The PTO continually works to provide valuable technology, equipment, and programs that assist our children as they strive for educational excellence.

What are the PTO board meetings?

The PTO board members provide direction for the group according to goals adopted by the group.  They meet once a month prior to the regular PTO meeting to set the agenda and organize the monthly meeting.  No decisions are made at these meetings.  The board meetings are opened to the public.  All requests for money and/or items for the agenda should be addressed at this meeting.  An agenda request form can be obtained from the PTO president prior to the board meeting.

Where can I help?

There are many things you can do to help PTO.  We need your ideas.  Come to the meetings and give us ideas on fundraisers, family date nights, and educational assemblies.  You can vote on where you want to see the fundraising money spent.  We can use parent volunteers to help break down orders when they come in, separate them, and deliver them to the classrooms.  Help is needed on Family Date Nights for taking tickets, selling refreshments, and security at the doors.  Parent volunteers are needed to support Book Fairs and Teacher Appreciation Week with decorations, food preparation, set up, and tear down, etc.  Fill out and submit the PTO Volunteer Sign-Up
