I am honored to be the principal of Evans Elementary School. As principal, I am dedicated to working closely with the Evans staff, parents and community in a collaborative effort towards increased student achievement. I have high expectations for students, teachers and parents and believe that when we all work together, our children will achieve the highest levels of learning. I am proud to be a part of a school environment in which rigorous teaching and learning take place, and where all students achieve academic and social success.

Evans is currently working towards an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme accreditation. Our school will be the first in District 49 to offer this program to students. The IB PYP is designed for elementary school children, to foster the development of the whole child through interdisciplinary learning experiences.

I truly enjoy visiting with students and families. Please stop in to say hello. I welcome any questions or ideas you may have about our school and programs.

Mrs. Amber Whetstine

Dear Evans Family and Friends,

Welcome to the 2007-08 school year.  I hope all of you have had a fun and relaxing summer with your children.  We have been busy here at Evans as well and are excited for the year to start.  Make sure you stop by the front office and see the improvements made by Ms. Cathy, Ms. Pam, and Ms. Donna. They did a bit of “extreme makeover” office edition and it looks great.  Our PTO also purchased new plants and bushes to spruce up the front of our school with some nice landscaping.

I am very excited to begin my second year at Evans as the Assistant Principal and am looking forward to working with our wonderful community of students, staff, and parents in continuing to provide a world class education for all our kids.

We will be working hard this year in the continuing implementation of our International Baccalaureate program.  All of our staff members are very excited about our candidate status and providing a well rounded, international education to your children.  This year we will also be implementing a Positive Behavior Support (PBS) system that will compliment nicely with our Responsive Classroom, BoysTown Social Skills, and our IB program.  The PBS system rewards students when they do something that is right and focuses on positive reinforcement.  Your children will soon be coming home with stories about how many PAWS slips they got and they may even be awarded a prize in the daily classroom drawings.

All the staff at Evans will continue to have high expectations for student’s academic and behavioral performance.  We deeply value parents and the community as partners in the development and education of all our students.  By working as a team we will create an excellent learning environment for our students and develop life-long learners.  I encourage you to talk with your child daily about their experiences at school; their friends, daily activities, and anything else they would like to share with you.  As a parent, there is a lot of joy in knowing about your child’s day!

Please, feel free to give me a call at any time if you have any questions about your child’s experience at Evans!

Mr. Dustin Horras
Assistant Principal
