Evans Families and Friends

I am excited to enter the 2009-10 school year as the new principal of Evans International Elementary School.  Having spent twelve of my thirteen years in District 49 at Evans it really has become home and I am honored to be chosen for this position. For those of you who are new to Evans or not aware of my previous experiences, my teaching career began at Evans thirteen years ago as a fourth grade teacher.  After two years in fourth grade, I spent seven years as the physical education teacher at Evans.  After nine years of teaching at Evans, I spent one year as a Dean of Students at Sand Creek High School.  Following that year I found my way back “home” and have spent the past three years as Assistant Principal at Evans.  I have greatly enjoyed my years spent at Evans and am looking forward to many more.

The 2009-10 school year will also be our first full year as an authorized International Baccalaureate School.  We are very proud of this accomplishment and I am personally thankful for all the hard work our students, staff, and parent community put in to make this happen. As an IB PYP school, we will foster the development of the whole child as life-long learners through interdisciplinary teaching and learning activities.  Although we have achieved this goal, our work is not done and we will continue to maintain high expectations for student’s academic and behavioral performance.  I look forward to continuing to work with the best staff of educators in District 49 as we continue to provide your children with an outstanding education and a fun and caring school environment.

We deeply value parents and the community as partners in the development and education of all our students.  By working as a team we will continue to create an exceptional learning environment for all of our students.  I encourage you to talk with your child daily about their experiences at school; their friends, daily activities, and anything else they would like to share with you.  As a parent, there is a lot of joy in knowing about your child’s day!

I look forward to speaking with returning families and meeting new ones.  Please feel free to contact me at any time to discuss your child’s education.

Principal

Dear Evans Families and Friends,

I am thrilled to have the opportunity to serve as assistant principal at Evans International Elementary School for the 2009-2010 school year.  Having been a teacher at Evans during the past five years, I have been fortunate to be part of a positive school community focused on student success.  I am very proud of our school, and consider it an honor to support your child’s learning.

I wanted to take this opportunity to share with you a little of my professional background.  I began my teaching career eleven years ago as a classroom teacher in Pueblo District 60 in southern Colorado.  I taught grades three and four for six years prior to relocating to Colorado Springs in 2004 to join Falcon School District 49 as a third grade teacher at Evans.  While at Evans, I have taught third grade for three years and have enjoyed my role as instructional coach for the past two years.

It is with great excitement that Evans International will begin this school year as an authorized International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program school.  The tremendous sense of community among the students, staff, and families at Evans International played an integral part in earning IB distinction.  I am proud to be a part of this dedicated school community that is committed to children and student achievement.  I know that our staff will continually strive to support each child’s academic and personal success.

I look forward to meeting you throughout the year and working together to support your child’s learning and growth.  I feel strongly about keeping the lines of communication open between school and family, so please feel free to contact me or stop by at any time.

Sincerely,

Michelle Slyter
Assistant Principal
