Extended learning opportunities are offered after school, and sessions include enrichment and remediation instruction for students. The
Evans staff believes that a student’s social/emotional well-being is
just as important as academic needs. Evans Elementary is committed to
building a strong sense of community that involves the students,
parents, and staff. The Responsive Classroom philosophy assists with
the building of a strong school and learning community where high social
and academic standards are expected. The Responsive Classroom is built
around six key components that integrate teaching, learning, and caring
within the daily routine. The components are centered around honesty,
fairness, and respect, and are implemented through the development and
strengthening of social skills, such as cooperation, assertion,
responsibility, empathy, and self-control. Special ProgramsEvans is supported by the District Special Education program, which provides services for children who have special instructional needs (e.g., perceptual/ communication disorders, physical disabilities including vision and hearing impairments, emotional disorders, or limited intellectual capacities). Evans uses the inclusion model to mainstream all special education students. Support ServicesEvans offers a daily hot lunch program. Free and reduced meals are available to eligible students. Evans is a “walk-in” school, serving children in the Cimarron Hills community. Bus transportation is provided from some neighborhoods. Champions Day Care Center operates a before and after school program. Parent/Community InvolvementEvans’s PTO is a group of enthusiastic parents who actively support the educational welfare of all children. Evans also has an active Building Advisory Accountability Committee that is made up of staff members, parents, and community members. It is a long range, visionary group seeking to make the school a better place for everyone. Their goal is to provide continued quality education through close school/community cooperation. The faculty at Evans is a diversified, professional group of people dedicated to meeting the educational needs of all children.
